The Story
The Story - Brandi Carlile Cover by Hannah Jane
Ever heard of Phil Hanseroth?
Yeah me either - but he's the man who wrote my favourite Brandi Carlile song 'The Story'. He's her bass player, and apparently wrote it long before they met.
I don't know much more than that, but I am grateful he wrote it; that he didn't give up on it; and that in time he gave 'The Story' to the world.
I find it fascinating to think how many people he has moved without them even knowing his name. I love that he wrote his story into a song that now has a life of its own.
All because he created something and didn't give up.
Truly admirable.
As for me, I nearly give up far too often.
I wonder what it's all for.
I wonder what's the point.
I wonder if there is any value.
I wonder if maybe I have nothing good to offer.
I wonder if I'm wasting my time.
But then the moment I have an hour to myself, I write a song. Or I pick up my guitar and I sing. And in that moment I feel free and alive and in that I find some meaning.
So I managed to find the chords to play 'The Story' and sing it, and I don't so much care if it's beyond me because I know my limitations but so what - I want to do it anyway.
Moral of the story to anyone who's listening, myself included...try to think less and do more and maybe somewhere along the way we'll find we've done something worthy :)

Lyrics -
All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don't mean anything
When you've got no one to tell them to
It's true, I was made for you
I climbed across the mountain tops
Swam all across the ocean blue
I crossed all the lines and I broke all the rules
But baby, I broke them all for you
Oh, because even when I was flat broke
You made me feel like a million bucks
You do, and I was made for you
You see the smile that's on my mouth
It's hiding the words that don't come out
And all of my friends who think that I'm blessed
They don't know my head is a mess
No, they don't know who I really am
And they don't know what I've been through like you do
And I was made for you
All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am
Oh, but these stories don't mean anything
When you've got no one to tell them to
It's true, I was made for you
Oh, yeah, well it's true that I was made for you SHOW LESS
